Bristol Flyers have acquired American forward Zach Anderson out of George Mason University.
The 6ft7in versatile sharpshooter has penned his first professional contract with the Flyers and joins the club on a one-year deal.
Anderson began his college career at Florida Gulf Coast, where he made over 110 appearances between 2020 and 2024.
He ranked second on the team in scoring (12.8 PPG) during the 2023/24 campaign, whilst also averaging 5.1 rebounds on an impressive 45.9% from behind the three point line – earning All-ASUN Third Team honours.
Following a transfer to George Mason, Anderson continued to excel as an elite shot maker – posting 5.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season, whilst shooting a team-best 40% from three point range.
He played a key role on a George Mason side that were named Atlantic 10 regular season co-champions and reached a conference tournament championship game for the first time since 2009.
Speaking on signing his first pro contract with the Flyers, Anderson said: “I’m really excited. You always strive to be a professional basketball player growing up and the fact that I’m now able to do it is a blessing.
“I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Flyers organisation. As soon as I signed, I sat down with my family and we watched a couple of games from last season to get a rhythm of what to expect and I was very impressed. That just made me more excited to get down there and get the ball rolling.
“I had a great conversation with Coach Kapoulas and he was very open and honest. He likes that I’m versatile and I can guard one through five – I can put the ball on the floor and I’m a good shooter too. I’m one of those players that can fit in to almost any system and I’m ready to fit into any role that the team needs.
“My message to the Flyers Family would be to get ready for the show. I feel like we’re gonna have a really good team this year and your excitement and support really matters.”
Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: “Zach is a versatile, high-energy player who brings a winning mentality and plays the game the right way.
“He developed well during his time at Florida Gulf Coast and George Mason, showing he can impact the game on both ends of the floor – whether it’s defending multiple positions, rebounding, or knocking down big shots.
“His high efficient shooting and playmaking ability alongside his toughness and competitive spirit will fit in really well with the roster we’re building here in Bristol.”
Anderson becomes the sixth member of Andreas Kapoulas’ 2024/25 roster, joining Owen McCormack, Jonathan Brown, Cam Holden, Miloš Dugalić and Joe Anderson.
