The Championship continued this weekend, with two teams emerging from their slumber to record wins.

But when the weekend was all set and done, a familiar side continued to flex its muscles at the summit.

Leicester Riders 78-82 Cheshire Phoenix

A strong fourth-quarter finish from the Cheshire Phoenix propelled them to an 82-78 victory against the Leicester Riders at the Mattoli Arena.

Trailing 66-59, the Phoenix outscored the Riders 23-12 in the final frame but needed free throws from Pat Robinson in the final seconds to make the game safe.

Robinson would lead the way with 25 points on 60% shooting, helped along by 13 from Skyler White, despite going 2/9 from three-point land.

Travis Evee and Spencer Johnson had 19 points apiece for Leicester, with the latter pulling down 13 rebounds.

Newcastle Eagles 104-80 Caledonia Gladiators

Newcastle Eagles made it four wins in a row as they dismissed the Caledonia Gladiators 104-80 at the Vertu Motors Arena.

A commanding first half set the tone for the Eagles’ latest success, as they raced out to an early lead, en route to taking a comfortable 62-39 advantage at the break.

From there, the Gladiators couldn’t mount a comeback, as Ray’Sean Taylor and Maceo Jack each led the way with 21 points for the Eagles, who shot 52% from the floor and drained 19 three-pointers.

Jet Speelman amassed 14 for Caledonia.

Bristol Flyers 77-86 Manchester Basketball

A superb fourth-quarter showing lifted Manchester Basketball to an 86-77 victory over the Bristol Flyers in the South-West.

Manchester trailed by as many as 13 points to claw their way back into proceedings and knot the game at 55-55 heading into the fourth quarter. It was there when Manchester followed up their resilience to show their class.

Max Jones was magical again, as he poured in 31 points and four assists for Manchester. Pat Smith Jr. added 24 with seven assists.

Cameron Christon and Jonathan Brown had 16 points apiece for the Flyers.

Surrey 89ers 95-77 B. Braun Sheffield Sharks

Surrey 89ers secured their first win after four straight losses by beating the B. Braun Sheffield Sharks 95-77 at Surrey Sports Park.

A much-needed result for the Niners following their recent torment as they put together an all-round polished showing against a Sharks team that were outplayed and couldn’t get into a consistent rhythm in the game.

Isiah Small led the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds, helped by 19 from Kino Lily Jr.. Ronald Polite III also contributed a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists.

Prentiss Nixon led Sheffield with 16 points, who were unable to build on their impressive win over London Lions in their last game.

Caledonia Gladiators 79-65 Leicester Riders

Caledonia Gladiators also got their first win in four games as they beat the Leicester Riders 79-65 at PlaySport.

However, the Gladiators had to fight back from a 30-17 first-quarter deficit in order to claim that elusive win. Following the opening ten minutes, the hosts clamped down on Leicester’s offensive momentum and held them to just 35 points after that.

Against his former club, Ethan Wright had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Caledonia, with his points tally matched by team-mate Rian Holland.

Spencer Johnson led Leicester with 18 points as they endured a losing weekend.

London Lions 98-71 Newcastle Eagles

Championship leaders London Lions were in devastating form in the first 20 minutes en route to a 98-71 victory over the Newcastle Eagles at the CopperBox.

After an even start, London snapped the chains with a 9-0 run to take a 20-9 advantage, and their lead only got larger as the game progressed, growing to 58-26 at the break with it peaking at 35 points. Newcastle saw some light in the second half, but by then it was too late.

Kam McGusty and Joel Scott led London with 13 points apiece, and all 12 players registered at least three points.

Terrell Burden Jr. paced the Eagles with 16 points.
