Manchester Basketball have continued to build an exciting roster for the 2026/27 Super League Basketball season, completing the signings of Great Britain international Luke Nelson, returning fan favourite Jordan Johnson and welcoming newcomers Keon Thompson, Elijah Walsh and Charlie Williams.
The quintet further strengthens Matthew Otten’s squad ahead of a campaign that will see Manchester compete in both domestic and European competitions.
Leading the arrivals is experienced Great Britain guard Luke Nelson, who returns to British soil after spells across France, Germany, Spain and Hungary following a successful collegiate career at UC Irvine, having also previously featured for the London Lions in this country as a professional. A regular member of the GB senior national team, the 31-year-old adds leadership and experience to a growing British core that already includes Kaiyem Cleary, Kayne Henry, Jonathan Brown and Ciaran Sandy.
“I’m excited for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this season in Manchester!” said Nelson.
Manchester have also secured the return of 26-year-old Jordan Johnson after an outstanding debut campaign with the club. The American guard averaged 14.1 points per game in Super League Basketball and 14.7 points in European competition, while producing a memorable 30-point performance in the SLB Cup Final as Manchester reached two major finals.
Johnson becomes one of several players returning from last season, providing valuable continuity as Otten’s side looks to build on last year’s success.
Joining him in the backcourt is rookie American guard Keon Thompson, who arrives after a standout season at Stephen F. Austin. The 2025/26 Southland Men’s Basketball Player of the Year averaged 18.1 points per game, earning five conference Player of the Week awards while finishing among the league leaders in both scoring and assists.
“I’ve always believed that when you’re given an opportunity, it’s your job to make the most of it,” said Thompson. “I’m excited to get to work and represent Manchester the right way.”
Manchester have also added promising British guard Elijah Walsh, who joins after collegiate spells at Campbell University and Florida Southern. The Leeds-born 23-year-old rookie strengthens the club’s domestic contingent as he begins his professional career.
“I’m really excited to be joining Manchester,” Walsh said. “It’s great to have the opportunity to play close to home, and I can’t wait to get started, help the team, and play in front of the fans this season.”
Completing the latest group of signings is 6’10” rookie American centre Charlie Williams, who impressed at Lipscomb University last season. A versatile frontcourt player capable of facilitating the offence as well as stretching the floor, Williams arrives to add another dimension to Manchester’s attack.
“I am beyond blessed to be able to start my professional basketball career for Manchester,” Williams said. “I fully believe in the vision Coach Otten has for the club. I am looking to help build off last year’s season, and I couldn’t be more excited to do so.”
Head Coach Matthew Otten believes each addition brings qualities that will strengthen the group.
On Nelson, he said: “Luke is a power signing for us and as a domestic. His defence, ability to see the floor and toughness are what stood out.”
Speaking about Johnson’s return, Otten added: “The opportunity to get Jordan Johnson back for a second year was a no brainer. He’s a player that steadily improved throughout the season and played a pivotal role in helping us win games.”
On Thompson, Otten highlighted the American’s competitive edge, saying: “He has winning in his DNA and we look forward to having him bring that to us.”
Discussing Walsh, Otten described the Brit as “an athletic talent that can play and defend multiple positions”, while Williams will provide “a point guard in the paint presence” thanks to his passing ability and floor spacing.
With pre-season preparations set to begin later this month, Manchester’s latest recruitment drive combines proven experience, returning chemistry and emerging talent as the club prepares to challenge on both the domestic and European stage in 2026/27.
