How the All-Star Five Is Selected
The All-Star Five is Super League Basketball’s Team of the Week, recognising the five best-performing players from the latest round of games.
How are players selected?
Selection is data-led, using each player’s Index Rating, also known as Performance Points. This is automatically calculated by FIBA LiveStats based on a player’s statistical contribution during a game.
The formula is:
(Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks + Fouls Drawn) − (Missed Field Goals + Missed Free Throws + Turnovers + Shots Blocked + Personal Fouls)
This means that both positive and negative contributions are taken into account when determining a player’s overall Performance Points.
Who is eligible?
Only players from winning teams are eligible for selection.
There can normally be a maximum of two players from the same team in the All-Star Five. Where there are only two fixtures in a game week, up to three players from one team can be selected.
The five highest-performing eligible players are then selected, with their positions in the All-Star Five ranked according to their Performance Points.
What happens if players are tied?
If players have the same Performance Points, they are normally ordered alphabetically.
If a tie determines who takes the fifth and final place, additional factors may be considered to determine the selection. These can include the team’s result and significant contributions during the game, such as a game-winning shot.
When is it calculated?
The All-Star Five is calculated every Monday and covers performances from the previous seven days, including fixtures played on the Sunday.
This means the selection is based on the most recent completed round of league action and provides a consistent, transparent way of recognising the week’s top performers.
