Competitions

The SLB season typically begins around mid-late September and runs through to mid-late May the following year with all teams competing in four competitions.

Championship

The Championship is the Super League Basketball’s flagship competition and determines the top team in British basketball over a 36-game regular season campaign.

The 10 clubs meet one another on four occasions in the league competition – twice at home and twice away. Teams are awarded two points for a win and the team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned Champions.

In the case of a tie, the head-to-head record between the sides concerned was taken into account. In the case of a tie between multiple teams where this does not break the tie, it was then determined by the points difference in the games between the teams.

With the regular season completed, the top six teams in the Championship table will progress to the Play-offs.

Cup

The SLB Cup is a knockout tournament featuring all ten SLB clubs.

The top 6 teams from the previous season’s Championship standings receive a bye into the Quarter Finals, whilst the four remaining teams compete in a single leg Play-in game, with the winners advancing to join the other teams in the Quarter Finals.

An open draw determines the Semi-Final ties (which are two-legged) with the winners advancing to the single leg Final in March.

Play-offs

The pinnacle of our sport, the Play-offs is the season-ending competition, contested between the top six Championship teams competing in a two-legged knockout tournament for the most coveted silverware of the season.

Seeds 1-2 will receive an automatic bye into the Semi-Finals, with Seeds 3-6 competing in a 2-leg Quarter Finals. Ties assigned by seeding – 3 v 6, 4 v 5.

In the Semis, Seed 1 faces the lowest remaining seed, and Seed 2 faces the other remaining team with the two winners advancing to the Final in May.
