Bristol Flyers have added one of the UK’s most promising young basketball players to their roster, with 19-year-old Nojus Zajankauskas joining the club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 6’4″ guard arrives in Bristol with a growing reputation as one of the country’s up-and-coming young talents, having already represented Great Britain at U16 and U18 level.
At just 19 years of age, his arrival represents an investment in the future, with the Flyers looking to help develop the next generation of British basketball talent.
A product of the London Stars programme from a young age, Zajankauskas has progressed through the club’s pathway and established himself in senior basketball.
Last season, he averaged 17.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in NBL Division One, gaining valuable experience and producing against senior opposition.
The dual British and Lithuanian guard was part of the Great Britain U18 squad at the 2025 FIBA U18 EuroBasket Division B, averaging 9.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, while shooting an impressive 44.1% from three-point range.
Now, he will continue his development with the Flyers, joining a club with a strong track record of developing young British talent and providing a platform for successful playing careers.
Speaking on his decision to join the Bristol Flyers, Zajankauskas said: “I’m really excited to join the club. This will be my first opportunity at a professional programme, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
“When I had my first meeting with Coach Kapoulas, I really liked his professionalism and I could immediately tell that the Flyers programme would be a great environment for me to develop as a player.
“I did my research into the club, and you only have to look back over the years at the young British players who have been given an opportunity at the Flyers and what they’ve gone on to achieve.
“Players like Deane Williams, who started his professional journey in Bristol, went on to win the Basketball Champions League and is now playing at the highest levels of the EuroCup.
“Then you look more recently at players like Jelani Watson-Gayle, Evan Walshe and Jonathan Brown, who have used their opportunities at the Flyers to break into the GB Senior Men’s programme.
“It’s not going to be easy for me as a young player coming into my first professional environment. You have to earn every single minute on the court, and I know I’m going to have to come in every day and show why I deserve to be here.”
Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: “Developing young British players and giving them a genuine opportunity at senior level is something we take a lot of pride in as a programme.
“We don’t just want to talk about developing British talent – we want to create an environment where young players can come in, earn opportunities and ultimately establish themselves at the highest level they can.
“We’ve seen a number of players come through the Flyers who have gone on to have successful careers, both domestically and internationally, and that is something we want to continue.
“Nojus is another young player who we believe has the potential to develop into a very good professional. He has already shown that he can perform at senior level, he has a good skill set and, importantly, he has the right attitude and desire to improve.
“Coming into a professional environment at 19 years old is a big step, but we’re excited to give Nojus the opportunity to learn, compete and show what he can do.”
