Super League Basketball is delighted to announce the winner of the Molten Sixth Player of the Year, following a voting process involving the League’s Head Coaches, Captains and select members of the media.
After a stellar sophomore campaign at the professional level, Leicester’s Ethan Wright took Sixth Player of the Year honours in his first season at the Mattioli Arena as he helped the Riders charge towards second place in the Championship standings as well as semi-final positions in the Cup and Trophy competitions.
With Championship career highs of 23 and 21 points coming against Newcastle Eagles and London Lions respectively, Wright proved himself as much a man for the big occasion as he did a dependable provider of impressive performances against all challengers. Alongside Charles Thompson, Jaylin Hunter and Riley Abercrombie in particular, this quartet have had impressive first season’s under Rob Paternostro’s tutelage in the East Midlands.
Reflecting on his success in winning this award, Wright said:
“The recognition means a lot personally, but it’s a representation of our team. We have a lot of guy that made sacrifices, and coming off the bench was something I had to adjust to and something I took pride in.
“It’s been a really great year for us, and we’re still focused on the main goal of winning a Championship. My role is coming off the bench and being an impact guy, so I’m going to continue to put all of my energy into winning the Final!”
Riders Head Coach Rob Paternostro added:
“Ethan is exactly what you would want in a sixth man. He makes an impact from the bench, can play multiple positions and as the season went on found a nice rhythm to his game.
“He certainly was a guy you could count on in the season.”
