Super League Basketball is delighted to announce the roster for the Molten All-League Team of the Year, following a voting process involving the League’s Head Coaches, Captains and select members of the media.
Third-year pro Mike Okauru marks an exceptional debut season for the Newcastle Eagles with leading the way in All-League Team of the Year selections as he racked up 17 votes – two shy of the maximum – following a stellar campaign for Marc Steutel’s side.
Turbo-charging the Vertu Motors Arena outfit to their Trophy title success in January, Okauru has been a consistent bucket-getter throughout the campaign and shone both domestically and on the European stage. He has paced the league with 17.9 points per contest in Championship action, and earned the moniker ‘Money Mike’ with several show-stopping performances, including a season-high 40-point game on Valentine’s Day.
The London Lions‘ Aaryn Rai is next up on the roster with 15 selections, and the CEBL Playoff winner with Niagara River Lions in the summer has followed up that success with leading London to the Championship title this year, becoming somewhat of a serial winner in his blossoming professional career.
Leicester Riders duo Zach Jackson and Charles Thompson join the party after helping lead a relatively young and inexperienced side to legitimate title contention, taking the Championship race down to the last few days of the Regular Season.
Jackson proved himself a certified carrier of the clutch gene as his calm, clinical demeanour under pressure helped Leicester secure several superb wins throughout the campaign. Thompson follows up his All-Defensive Team of the Year nomination with this award, and few players can claim to have been anywhere near as dominant as this rookie big man has been on both ends of the floor this year.
Completing the representation of the three season-long title contenders in this roster is B. Braun Sheffield Sharks floor general Prentiss Nixon. In his first full season at the Canon Medical Arena, ‘P Money’ led the Sharks to Cup glory in Nottingham back in March. Tallying almost 16 points, five rebounds and four assists per game throughout the Regular Season, Nixon has been an all-round menace for Sheffield this season and a key reason behind their success in a turbulent campaign for a roster ravaged by injuries.
