Super League Basketball (SLB) can confirm that Chair Sanjay Bhandari MBE is to step down from his interim role today following a significant period of leadership and strategic development for the league.

Since joining SLB, Bhandari has played a central role in helping guide the organisation through a frenetic period for professional basketball in Great Britain, providing leadership, stability and strategic direction during a period of substantial change across the sport.

Working closely with clubs, league executives and key stakeholders, Bhandari helped strengthen the league’s governance structures, supported the establishment of SLB’s long-term vision and oversaw important progress in reinforcing the league’s standing both domestically and internationally.

During his tenure, SLB secured official recognition from FIBA — an important moment in the league’s continued development and future growth given the vacuum created by the collapse of the BBF.

Speaking on his departure, Bhandari said:

“It has been an honour to serve as Chair of Super League Basketball during such an important period for the sport. It has been a period of great uncertainty in British basketball and SLB has taken a leadership role. We have worked together with our colleagues across the sport to build the relationships and structures that will enable the future development of professional basketball in Great Britain.

“I am incredibly proud of the collaboration, resilience and commitment shown by our clubs, players, staff and partners throughout this journey. The league is well positioned for continued growth, and I leave confident that the future of basketball in this country is an exciting one.”

SLB Chief Operating Officer Andy Webb paid tribute to Bhandari’s contribution:
