Bristol take down London; Newcastle halt their skid

Week 10 of the Super League Basketball featured six games for the fans to enjoy. London Lions’ unbeaten run came to an end against Bristol, with five other teams earning victories.

Newcastle Eagles 92-89 Surrey 89ers

The Newcastle Eagles edged past the Surrey 89ers 92-89 at the Vertu Arena and secured a long-awaited win.

Gus Okafor had a terrific game, recording 17 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Deion Hammond contributed a game-high 20 points in the win. Meanwhile, Isiah Small delivered another strong performance for Surrey with 15 points and 18 rebounds, though it wasn’t enough to secure the victory.

Coming into this game, the Eagles were determined to end their six-game losing streak as they hosted Surrey. Newcastle took control early, setting the tone in the opening quarter and keeping the Niners at arm’s length throughout.

A strong third quarter then gave them a decisive 17-point cushion. However, Surrey surged back in the fourth, cutting their deficit to just two down the stretch. Nonetheless, the Eagles managed to see the game out, and return to the win column.

Manchester Basketball 97-91 Cheshire Phoenix

Manchester Basketball produced an incredible 19-point second-half comeback to defeat the Cheshire Phoenix 97-91 in front of their fans at the National Basketball Performance Centre.

Jordan Johnson registered 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists off the bench, scoring crucial baskets down the stretch to get his side over the line. Kaiyem Cleary added a game-high 23 points and six rebounds in the win.

The Nix dominated the opening quarter, taking command of the game early and extending their lead to as many as 15 points. However, Manchester kept battling in front of their fans and delivered an impressive collective effort in the second half to overturn a 19-point deficit and secure the win.

Leicester Riders 85-79 Caledonia Gladiators

The Leicester Riders took down the Caledonia Gladiators 85-79 at the Mattioli Arena to claim their fourth win of the Championship campaign.

Both teams delivered a highly entertaining battle, going back and forth throughout, with the Gladiators fighting from behind for most of the game. Ultimately, the Riders managed to hold onto their narrow lead down the stretch and claimed the win in front of their fans.

RaeQuan Battle got his side over the line with another outstanding performance, recording a game-high 30 points and five rebounds, while Travis Evee chipped in 17 points in the win.

Jett Speelman and Matthew Ragsdale contributed 21 points and eight rebounds, and 19 points respectively, but ultimately came up short with the Gladiators.

Bristol Flyers 68-54 London Lions

The Bristol Flyers took down the London Lions 68-54 at the SGS College Arena, ending their eight-game winning start this season.

After a tough start, the Lions responded with a strong second quarter to take a slim lead into the halftime break. However, the Flyers came out firing in the second half, tightening up defensively and holding London to just nine points in the third quarter, helping them secure their seventh win of the campaign.

Zachary Anderson led all scorers with 22 points, while Joseph Anderson contributed for 12 points and seven assists in the win.

London Lions 95-82 Newcastle Eagles

The London Lions bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 95-82 win over the Newcastle Eagles at the Copper Box Arena.

After a dominant first half, that saw them build a 23-point lead, the Lions looked to be cruising towards their ninth win of the season in front of their home fans. The Eagles came out much stronger after the break, tightening up defensively, making it far more difficult for the hosts, but their second-half push wasn’t enough as London held on to their advantage to seal the victory.

Amin Adamu led the Lions in scoring with 18 points while Jonathan Williams delivered an all-round performance with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Ray’sean Taylor led all scorers, with three other players scoring in double figures for Newcastle in the loss.

Cheshire Phoenix 111-84 Bristol Flyers

The Cheshire Phoenix secured a comfortable 111-84 win over the Bristol Flyers at the Cheshire Oaks Arena, bouncing back from their frustrating loss earlier this weekend.

After playing three games in five days, the Flyers looked to have run out of gas, while the Nix ran riot from long distance, sinking 20 three-pointers in the win.

Damiri Lindo was simply unstoppable, scoring 28 points off the bench, while shooting an efficient 9-of-11 from the field. Lindo was also lights out from three-point range, knocking down his first six attempts from beyond the arc. Patrick Robinson contributed for 16 points, six rebounds and nine assists, with four other Cheshire players scoring in double figures.
